The designers, general contractor, sustainability consultant, and the owner worked together to achieve points in the following categories:
We use Energy Star Rated appliances designed to conserve water. These appliances include dishwashers and clothes washers. In addition, we use water-conserving fixtures on our toilets, showerheads, and kitchen and bath faucets.
Our community has Energy Star Rated appliances and lighting. Our HVAC system is also high efficiency to reduce energy consumption.
We have implemented erosion and sediment control to protect the surrounding lands and bodies of water. Our storm drains have labels that act as a reminder that our site falls within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. For water conservation, we irrigate our landscaping with cisterns that harvest rain. We have also planted native species to help protect the ecosystem.
To reduce the construction waste, over 75% of the waste was recycled. The clubhouse has roof shingles designed to reduce the heat island effect.
Healthy Living Environment
None of the paints, primers, adhesives, or sealants used in the community contain VOCs (volatile organic compounds), such as formaldehyde. The composite wood for the kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and interior doors is urea formaldehyde-free. The carpets have green label floor coverings and the bathrooms are equipped with smart fans to reduce the potential for mold.
